I understand this knife did not come out as you wanted, but let me say this knife is wonderful. The rough, hammered look along the spine and the burl gives it a unique "old world" look. The gold of the burl looks almost translucent in this photo, balancing the old with the new. Your handle shape is certainly unique as it is functional; it has a modern, fantasy-like quality to it but it has a wonderful practical, ruggedness as well. This knife would look stunning on a display table but would fit equally well on your hip in the backwoods; in fact it screams to me "I am as tough as I am beautiful, take me out and use me." Overall, this knife superbly blends the old world with the modern world and is an excellent example of traditional craftsmanship in an age of mass production. A simple beauty.

If second place looks this good, well then, I really wouldn't mind being second to number one.

Given the nature of the weapon, this fella would work really well as a boot knife. If you watch the movies, half the time the knife is to big and clunky. The other, the user can hardly get it out without being noticed. The handle and the shape of the overall is perfect for a surefire extraction. (Nice job)

I like it. The texture on the blade goes really well with the burl.

Oh, I do believe this is a beautiful knife, the detailing on the blade to me is amazing. When I first glimpsed it in thumbnail, I thought it was an engraved city view, but to my relief, it wasn't. I'm not sure what it's meant to be, but, it's reminiscent of a cliff side to me, a theme further engaged by the hilt - cliff after cliff in the hilt's edges, winding around what? A rolling green rain forest? A long and deep ocean view? Hm? Dunno, but still, it's a beautiful knife that makes me think of nature at it's most beautiful, and I hope whatever home it finds ((I admittedly hope said home is my own)) that it's keeper enjoys it as much as I at least enjoy the picture. It may not have come out as good as you wished, but I think, at least as a piece of art, it's come out wonderfully to fill my head with such images.

The "rough forge" look along the spine and the burl handle are gorgeous. Add to that your unique handle shape and you have a knife that would easily be "First place" in many knife collections. I actually prefer this knife to the tanto. It is absolutely beautiful. Huzzah and many kudos.

You only have to put that on the 1st place prize of the contest you are entering in. :P That way everyone doesn't have to keep doing it over and over again. You're already entered. ;)
