Thank you :iconj-alex-darr: and :iconkubusrubus: for getting me the DD! Also thank you all for the comments and favorites. I really appreciate it. :happybounce:

This is the knife that I donated to the 2012 Arkansas Knife Show which will be held on Feb 18th and 19th.

It is also the knife that is featured along with a picture of me, in the Knifemaker's Showcase section of the Blade magazine in the March 2012 issue which hit the newsstands in Jan, 2012. You can view the write up about the knife and me here:

In all honesty it was luck that it came out like this. If I did it with the same amount of metal and tried to get the same water-ish look again, it would probably look completely different. A lot of it had to do with the acid and the temperature/age of it. Which was super old. It took nearly 3 days of non-stop etch to get this and that was only because I kept forgetting about it. When I finally pulled it from it's acid bath and I cleaned it up, this was what I got.

I have found blue stabilized coral that looks like this again, but I will probably do a higher layer count that way my results are a little more reliable and more complex. I'm not sure if it will really take away from the look or not, but we will see.

"What I really like about this deviant's handcrafted knifes, is the attention to detail. On this knife, a touch of color from some blue brain coral in the handle really brings the design together and draws your eyes to the detail in the blade and handle. This is a beautiful and elegant knife, that would look just as good slicing up apples as it would proudly displayed on your mantel." Great looking blade-the blue coral scales are definetely a nice touch! Are you ever going to try your hand at swords? Especially some Japanese style and Medieval blades-I bet you could make some awesome ones!

Very nice and interesting!! Do you use powder metallurgy in your process or do you only forge plates of different steels?

i think its little to cheap for an knife awesome like this, have you tried making swords, and did you buy damascus steel (or wahterver material its made of) or you made it yourself?

Yeah, it is cheaper than most people's knives that are this quality. In the future my prices will go up, once my name is known more. I've made very few swords and I make all my damascus myself. I'm not sure where you would even buy damascus that is this low layered, since it's only a 10 layer billet. But, I do everything myself and from scratch. ^.^

that awesome! i would really like to know ,or even better see, how damascus steel is made. do you have to melt steel to make it, or is there any other easier way?

:iconlogan-pearce:
Logan-Pearce Featured By Owner Mar 27, 2012  Professional Artisan Crafter
You have to get the billet to welding temperature and then smash them together. It's good to use a sort of flux, to help things along and make sure that your welds are perfect.
