Frost by Logan-Pearce Frost by Logan-Pearce
Name: Frost
Blade Length: 4 1/2"
OAL Length: 10"
Blade Material: 360 layers of 1080/5160 formed in ladder pattern design
Handle Material: Blue dyed and stabilized giraffe bone
Fittings: Stainless steel guard and pins

Currently posing as my favorite knife of all time. I'll be throwing this knife to the wolves at the Arkansas Knife show in a few weeks, for the Best Giraffe Bone knife of the show. Doubt it will win, since it's all artsy and stuff. ;_;

If it does win then professional pictures of the knife with the award will be taken. If it doesn't win and I don't sell this very expensive piece, then I may have it sent off for pictures anyway. All of that is up in the air at the moment though. Even though this is one of the best knives I've ever created, I have two more in the works that have a good chance of surpassing this one by a mile or two.
Different angles ->

And finally the price she is at is $300.

I know and that's not even monopoly money I'm talking about. >.<

Facebook <- Because I'm always oh-so lonely. ;)

Very Art Nouveau, almost organic looking. That is a fantastic piece.

The blade is pretty unusual with those curves and detail. At first, I thought the handle had damaged color - but it was that "Frost" texture. Excellent :)

Thank you. :) I was lucky to find one this deeply colored. Being that it will be a one of a kind knife, I think it fits. :D

Knowing you mostly use files, I'll bet carving the blade was a bitch. It turned out gorgeous, the scale carving really picks up the design in the steel.
Carving bone smells like a branding fire to me. Kinda like it. :)

It definitely was. I was really wishing I had put straighter lines in the carved design when I was doing it. Now that I'm finished with it I'm glad it didn't. :P I'm glad you like it.

i love the metal grain patterns @w@
though, do those affect the blade's integrity any?

I love it! I wish I had a good press that way I could do a few other designs. At the moment I'm kind of limited to what I can do. But I really like almost all of the pattern welded designs. So I'm pretty thrilled with all of them. :D

They say that it's suppose to be stronger than each of the individual steels alone. That's also coming from super proud damascus supports. Personally I would never have a pattern welded blade as a user. Its just too pretty to me to be messed up.

I know they used folded steel of various grades for katanas in order to get the flexibility and rigidity in certain areas of the blade, and t causes the colors in "jewel steel", but I was curious about the visibility of the metal grain. Though, I guess now that I think on it, even at that scale it would be beneficial.

i'm a metallurgy noob. xD;

i have to agree though, it's too pretty to use *-*

Yes yes, very nice, yes.
That's amazing.
Also seems like it would give more support for piercing if it has the same design on the other side.

As a knife and sword enthusiast, both as a military member and a martial artist, i have to say that physically this is a beautiful piece of artistry. Your use of straight angles as well as rounded lines makes your knife very aesthetically pleasing to look at as the eye continues to follow the lines all around the piece as a whole. your use of carving on both the handle and the blade is impressive to say the least. A lot of times people spend so much time carving a handle that they forget about the blade. In this case your use of "less is more" works very well as the designs are similar but not exact. Also on the subject of your design, it has such fluidity to it that the the name "frost" is very appropriate.

All in all, a wonderful piece I look forward to seeing more of your work.
