Metal Rose Knife by Logan-Pearce Metal Rose Knife by Logan-Pearce
Yet another failure. >.>

I mean! It's a protoype! :P

If you haven't noticed, I like to mix my knifemaking with just about everything. Whether it's blacksmith or jewelry techniques. I'm always trying to make a functional piece of deadly art. This was the first rose knife I made that led me to make [link] which I've since improved.

So it was a learning experience. Like all of my other failures, I usually don't let it see the light of day, but they are always close at hand.

OAL: 12"
Blade Length: 5"
Blade Material: 5160
Handle Material: Twisted 5160. The leaves, sepal, and petals are all from 1/16" saw blades. The leaves are pinned onto the stem with brass pins.

I attempted to do some carving on it...which was the main reason I feel it was a failure. The other side is worse. >.< I came up with a much more simple design, which I will probably make later when I get around to it.

It was a fun knife to make and this will be my last rough/failed knife post. My next three knives will be a frontier style knife, a tactical style knife, and a sculpture-ish type knife. All three of which I'm currently working on. Hopefully by the time I'm finished posting all my crappy jewelry and chopsticks up, the three will be finished.

Maybe make the handle a little thicker so it can still be held. Btw, do you have any knives for sale at the moment on your site?

Not yet. I'll be putting the two tutorial knives up for sale, once I make sure that two buyers that have been waiting for this month's line up. They've been waiting for me to come out with knives for a few weeks now. Once they have their pick, I'll be putting some up for sale. I really need to update my site. =/

You need to present this knife in a glass cover like in the disney movie The beauty and the beast.

I'm so excited now.

I found some. :P Doll glass cases! They are like....$30 but I'm totally going to get some just for this. My gf is a total disney nut too. She really doesn't care for the rose knives though, well knives period. But! I said I told my friend that I had a gift for him to give his wife and he was itching to know what it was. I didn't tell him because I was trying to figure out a good stand for it and this is it!

I was going to go with a metal stand and make vines and leaves come up to hold the knife up. But this idea is a lot less work on me. xD

I like it. It almost seems like it's a dead/dying rose. Regardless of your own tear-downs of your work, remember that every failure is a step toward perfection.

Thank you! I had considered painting the rose red, but I don't think I could give it a finish that would last a long time and they are made to last. I like black roses anyway. A black rose mixed with a knife seemed like a good idea. :P

Thanks. It isn't too comfortable. The twists are what really do it, but it also gives it body. If I had used round piece instead of flat barstock, I wouldn't have had to do the twists and it would have felt better. The leaves and the rose on the other hand don't mess with the feel though. I actually put the leave as kind of a stopping point for your hand, which is why they are so rounded. But completely metal handles aren't exactly comfortable to begin with.

My idea was~ To have a few of these on a table near my door. For just a sculpture display thing. THEN! when someone breaks into my house when I'm opening the door, I can be like~ BAM! knife bio-tch! :P Okay that's a little crazy, but you know what I mean. I like to have hidden things like that. Just for fun.

Aannnd! You have the same name as me. If your real name is Logan. So you rock!

I know, I know, itīs very hard to invent something functional and decorative at same time. Itīs awesome piece of metalurgy work!

It is crazy enough to get it work :D But that idea is hilarious :) But that knife would be surely great for display.

At this point, I really would like to say, my name is Logan. But I canīt beacuse itīs not true. I have far more casual czech name (itīs under my nick). So it should be me, who say, that you rock beacuse of your name and artistic skills :)

I didnīt know that Logan can be even maiden name! But it can surely be used for both gender. Hey, donīt worry! Nearly whole world saw X-Men, so "Logan" is majorly associated with Wolverine - so itīs cool! :)

Oh yes! Yeah, luckily there is that. I'll admit one thing though. I always kind of wanted to marry a girl named Logan. So we would have the same first and last name. That way when they were like Logan Pearce, we would be like, yes? :P Just to make thing confusing.
